Earth Hour in the Adria Hotel for the Fifth Time, Neverthelessa a Premiere…
On Saturday, March 31, 2012 at exactly 8:30 p.m. many cities, towns, villages, companies as well as households worldwide were “plunged“ into darkness for at least one hour in order to show their support for the global project, Earth Hour 2012. The Czech Republic was obviously no exception!
This was an initiative under the auspices of the WWF (World Wildlife Fund), where its main mission was to draw attention to the negative influence of man on the environment. It was a symbolic one-hour shut-down of public lighting, switching off historical sights and buildings and turning off lights in households. Earth Hour 2012 now has an even greater challenge “to go longer than one hour“!
And what is such an involvement in the Earth Hour all about? Karel Doubek, Adria Hotel Director, who has been supporting this global project since the very beginning and who tries to draw the attention of more and more people and companies to this initiative, has described his experience in the following words: “Hotel lighting is regularly completely switched off and other appliances are turned down. Only the most essential electrical devices necessary for the safe running of the hotel are kept in operation. Dinners in the Triton Restaurant in the hotel are served in romantic lighting emanating from the illuminated aquarium, the reception and other areas of the hotel are in semidarkness, lit by candlelight. And what is the response of the guests? Hotel guests are always informed about this initiative in advance and they are very willing to participate. In fact they see it as a pleasant way of enhancing their stay. “
Karel Doubek, Adria Hotel Director, adds: “Even though this year the Adria Hotel has participated for the fifth time, this year was also an important premiere. With the assistance of the Czech Association of Hotels and Restaurants this idea was unanimously supported for the first time by another 40 hotels as an expression of the responsible attitude of the tourist trade and we believe that every year there will be more and more of us.“
“The way you are to us – we are to you”
“The way you are to us – we are to you” is this year’s motto of the traditional Twelfth Night, which is annually organised by the Adria Hotel for its business friends. Apart from an unusual programme, guests could look forward to delicious gastronomy, which this year did not consist only of the art of the master chefs! A significant part of the catering was in the hands of those participating in the event - both the guests and the hosts from the ranks of the Adria Hotel business group. The day before the event the kitchen of the Triton Restaurant of the hotel was very busy. For example the Hotel Director, Ing. Karel Doubek, knuckled down to the task of cooking stuffed rolled beef, Václav Høíbal, Sales Manager, prepared amazing white pudding sausages and brawn, and Štìpánka Šebková, Sales Executive, created an excellent cheesecake. This list could go on and on, because no one let the side down. Nevertheless, all the meals had one thing in common – they all deserved the highest praise. Well, you can see for yourselves all the hustle and bustle in the kitchen from the video we made. The guests also did themselves proud - they brought excellent yummies of their own creation, such as venison goulash, tiramisu, poppy seed cake and other delicacies to make your mouth water.
In the Adria Hotel we have always tried to surprise our guests with pleasant, unique and primarily personal experiences, whether large or small. They are personal because we think up the ideas ourselves and then we bring them to life with our joint efforts. One of these ideas for example is our breakfast mug. For breakfast in the Adria Hotel our guests will get their own personal mug with the initial letter of their first name and a charming picture. These mugs are painted for our guests by us, the employees of the Adria Hotel, together with people from the DUHA Society, which is a civic association engaged in trying to improve the life of the mentally handicapped and in the evening of the Twelfth Night our business partners got down to painting and created some really beautiful mugs for our guests.
We are looking forward to more shared experiences …
